Join Chicago artists for bi-monthly gatherings developing 21H2: 2099 – The Future of Blackness, a week-long immersive event set in the year 2099. Inspired by 21H2, a synthwave hip-hop artist and robotic martyr who unites the underground, each meeting explores Afrofuturism through the intersecting art forms of visual art, fashion, music, and film.
The year is 2099. Corporations and extreme wealth rule the day, but in the shadows lurk the general population. Humans live longer by sustaining their lifespans artificially. Health care has been decimated; only the generational wealthy can afford the lab engineered artificial limbs, while the general population is forced to back alley and warehouse undercover labs. Resources are slim and food is artificially created - only the wealthy can afford the nutritional supplements needed. Food bearing plants are kept behind barbed wire and video surveillance.
