Approaching Time

Starting Monday May 11th

A virtual exhibition from the collaboration between the Exploring Social Practices class at the School of the Art Institute (SAIC) and Hairpin Arts Center

Time is defined as, "the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole." It's our role as artists to learn from the past, produce for the present moment, and inform those in the future. Taking a step back and analyzing our current times allows us to put into perspective the ways we respond to change. We are able to take the concept of time and freeze it, bend it, or lock it away. Utilizing visual media, the works of this show will reference 'Time' in a way that takes into account not only our current pandemic, but our hopes and dreams, history, and human communication.

This exhibition is a collaboration between the Professional Practice class Exploring Social Practices at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Hairpin Arts Center.  Originally, the exhibition was based around the theme of trust, but as a result of the worldwide pandemic that is COVID-19, the class changed their theme to time. The class had intended on organizing and conceptualizing a show at Hairpin Arts Center. With the closing down of Chicago, the artists took the exhibition online in hopes of still connecting to a wide audience. The artists would like to thank Hairpin Arts Center for continuing the collaboration beyond the physical space, and for being so helpful in the promotion of the virtual exhibition.
