Hairpin Arts Center offers arts and cultural programming sharing the mission of Logan Square Chamber of Arts. Due to the impact of COVID 19, the Hairpin has been closed to audiences and is focused on live-streamed events. Hairpin is currently making physical improvements, including the completion of repainting the entire space. With the promised Capital Improvement grant from the State of Illinois, sound absorption curtains, sound system and lighting upgrades are anticipated being completed for the day when Hairpin can again be both a physical and spiritual hub for the Chicago arts community.
Established by Logan Square Chamber of Arts (LSCA) in 2011 in the historic landmark building known as the Hairpin Lofts, Hairpin Arts Center operates according to the following Guiding Principles:
Empower: Through the arts we empower artists to explore, create and present art that expresses their experience, their community and vision for the future. In all activities, we seek to connect with Integrity, Intentionality, and Accessibility. We provide a safe and welcoming platform for art to address the ever-changing issues of humanity.
Engage: We give voice to diversity of thought and expression across art forms and levels of experience. We offer a forum for artists and community activists to come together around shared causes. We honor the history, present needs, and future goals of the neighborhood surrounding Hairpin.
Transform: We promote ongoing, respectful dialog and shared understanding. We believe in the power of the arts to transform our communities, foster objective and caring criticism, a positive role for art in civic life. We unify and strengthen communities by shining art’s light on injustice to inspire transformation.
he Logan Square Chamber of Arts, was organized to promote the greater Logan Square community of Chicago as a vibrant and attractive cultural destination by enhancing cultural opportunities in the Logan Square area, showcasing local cultural institutions and artists through community events and participating in the larger Chicago cultural community.
Through our space, the Hairpin Arts Center, we strive to establish sustainable partnerships with artists and arts organizations of various disciplines, and to assist in the production and presentation of their work by providing space, resources and time.
We invite artists and the community to submit proposals for arts exhibitions, educational classes and other programming. The proposals will be reviewed quarterly. We are hopeful that in the near future the Hairpin will again be available to rent for arts-related activities, performances, and social events.
Logan Square Chamber of Arts is the first Chamber of Arts to be created in the city of Chicago, founded to establish sustainable partnerships with artists and arts organizations of various disciplines, and to assist in the production and presentation of their work by providing space, resources and time. Established as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit in 2009, LSCA’s mission is to empower, engage, and transform our communities through the arts.
